The oil and gas industry can be a wonderful place but we need to be diligent on how we keep the earth as it should be. Let’s work together and solve the problem of produced salt water.
I have been involved with the oil and gas industry since 2009. I have worked as a Landman in the field and office as well as on the production side of oil and gas. The truth is that we have to keep drilling. We cannot stop. We need oil and gas too much. Our wholes lives depend on it. We may be able to stop drilling for oil and gas in the future but we aren’t ready for it right now. The only area I see us having a problem is with our Saltwater Disposal Wells. We are injecting mass amount of produced salt water (PSW) into the ground everyday in the USA. How long do you think we can keep this up? We need to start processing the PSW and use it for production. We may even find another use for it. I know it’s expensive to do something first but we must start refining the PSW. There has to be a way. This could solve some of the countries water crisis. Here are some interesting facts about Texas and oil and gas production:
-In 2024 Texas produced 2,003,844,281 barrels (BBL).
2,003,844,281 BBL of oil x $66.63/BBL (9/20/2025 price) = $133,516,144,443.03
-In 2024 Texas produced 12,620,000,000,000 million cubic feet (MCF)
12,620,000,000,000 MCF x $2.91/MCF (9/20/2025 price) = $36,724,200,000,000.00
-Total dollar amount combined of both: $36,857,716,144,443.03
-The normal amount of royalty that goes to the oil and gas companies in 4/5 or 80% to 3/4 or 25%. Multiply $36,857,716,144,443.03 x 3/4 of 75% and the oil and gas companies took home $27,643,287,108,332.27
-In Texas we produce 24,000,000 BBL of PSW per day.
365 days x 24,000,000 =8,760,000,000 BBL of PSW per year.
